My first love was the desert.
In college, I spent a month doing archaeological fieldwork in the desert, camping on the rocks and exploring from sunup to sundown, searching for artifacts and documenting the land through my camera. I couldn’t believe that this was something you could do for a job—waking up each day to colors I had never seen before, watching the rocks glow in response to the rise and fall of the sun, and witnessing the sheer diversity of life in such a harsh and untamed place. The desert wasn’t empty; it was alive. You just had to slow down and look.
The experience of studying the past in such a landscape brought time full circle—connecting history, the present, and the future in a way that left me in awe. People had not only survived here for thousands of years but thrived. And just when I thought the desert couldn’t become any more magical, night would fall, revealing a sky so vast and brilliant that it felt like stepping into the universe itself.
That fieldwork in 2010 was the most profound project I ever worked on, but it left a lasting imprint—a deep passion for wild places and the connection they foster within us. The desert would always be my home.
It wasn’t until 2015, when I finally camped in Big Bend, that I felt that same spark again. Big Bend is unlike any other place—where mountains and pine trees collide with prickly pears and desert sands, where canyons rise against the lush banks of the Rio Grande. There is no better embodiment of Texas than Big Bend. The mountains will call to you, the canyons will pull you in, and the night sky will leave you breathless, over and over again.
This is why I want to share Big Bend with you—It’s a place that inspires, rejuvenates, and transforms. I hope you leave this creative meetup not just with new stories and connections but forever changed by the beauty and spirit of this land. I can’t wait for you to experience it for yourself and I’m excited to meet, create, and learn from each of you.

Photography
I'm Natalie, a photographer born and raised in Austin, Texas. I taught myself to shoot in high school, mostly just chasing whatever caught my eye, and that instinct never really went away. I went on to study media and environmental science because I wanted to do one thing: tell stories about the natural world through images. When I'm not behind a camera, I'm outside, hiking, swimming, or standing in whatever body of water I can find. I'm endlessly fascinated by the ocean, by ecosystems, by the way everything in nature is connected. That fascination is what drives my work across documentary, wildlife, travel, and portrait photography.

Alyssa Galloway
Painting
Alyssa Dawn Galloway is a child of the Hill Country. A painter and creative based in Austin, Texas, her paintings are inspired by love of the land.
An avid environmentalist, her work seeks to transmute the longings for a more harmonious world and wilderness spaces that are fiercely protected. She views the current ecological crisis as being integrally bound to human rights work, and thus her art is informed by issues of access and displacement.
Her paintings reflect her sense of wonder for the natural world; captivated by the quality of light across a landscape and motivated by a reverence for nature. She primarily works with acrylic paint, and is currently drawing inspiration from the Chihuahuan Desert of West Texas for her ongoing landscape series. -

I like to think I'm a simple guy. I love taking photos and working out, but when I take a step back and view my creative journey, its everything but simple. I started shooting with Polaroid and made my way into film photography. I told myself, I wanted to learn to use a manual film camera before diving into digital. This taught me to shoot like I only have one shot, so I take every aspect into consideration before tapping that shutter. I find it silly but I made me fall more in love with the art.

Originally from Philadelphia, now a proud Texan, I am a self-taught modern turquoise jewelry designer and silversmith. In 2019 after leaving an unhealthy relationship and a corporate career I was not passionate about, I traveled the country living out of a jeep with my dog and eventually ended up in the Southwest where I discovered silversmithing in 2021. Over the past few years I have grown my skills and developed a modern turquoise jewelry style focused on high-quality and unique stones. I create jewelry for the hippies, cowgirls, and badasses with a mission to inspire self-expression and celebrate individuality and the adventurous spirit through bold handcrafted jewelry that features modern design and outstanding craftsmanship.

Tori Stewart
Painting
I am an Austin-based artist and I invite viewers to ignite meaningful conversations about what it means to exist as a human. My work is an exploration of the interplay between the internal self and the external world—an abstract journey into consciousness through the simplicity of line, shape, and color. In times of transformation, my art encourages grace amid feelings of alienation and confusion, celebrating the uniqueness within each of us. Through movement, shape, and form, I am to capture the essence of sensation—creating a space for introspection where viewers can lose themselves in the interplay of lines and colors. My work illuminates the shared human experience, forging deep connections on an abstract level and reminding us that, while our journeys are individual, we are united in the search for meaning.

I work in science, but I am also into the arts. I believe they are complementary. I am curious and have pursued different artistic interests, including photography, landscape painting, and pottery. I bought my DSLR camera during COVID to take landscape photos while hiking. I used to spend many minutes at a beautiful spot, yet I took only mediocre pictures. It took many trials and errors to learn to compose a beautiful picture of a scene. I am slowly getting better at wildlife and nighttime photography, which requires different techniques than landscape photography.

My creative journey has been all about intention. Starting with photography in 2006 I worked hard to capture the “devil in the details” in every project I took on. My jewelry (started in 2020) is intuitive-hand-crafted jewelry inspired by tarot, astrology, and numerology. Using precious and semi-precious stones, sacred woods, and time honored metals to celebrate those tools of divination. All the while infusing a hint of Texas & the Southwest.

Growing up on farms and ranches in West Texas, I mostly learned to create through photography and music with dolorous influences from the Panhandle flatland. After moving to central Texas, I've embraced a more energetic, experimental approach to my art and hope to continue that with more outdoor adventure based photography. In addition to photography and playing live music in Austin, I run a small research and statistics-focused consulting firm that helps non-profits and Foundations evaluate the effectiveness of their programs.

I discovered photography in 7th grade, and nearly two decades later, now approaching 32, my passion for it has only grown stronger. What began as curiosity quickly became a lifelong way of seeing and understanding the world. Photography allows tells stories, capture moments, and share experiences beyond words.
When I’m not behind the camera, I work as a Multimedia Lead for the Air Force Civil Engineering Center. Outside of work, I’m an avid traveler, constantly seeking new places, perspectives, and stories to document. Whether at home or halfway around the world, photography remains my way of connecting people, places, and moments. -

I am a multidisciplinary artist, using photography as my dominant medium to explore the connection between people, place, and the quiet power of wild landscapes. My work is driven by a deep curiosity about how art can convey the emotional and ecological stories embedded within natural spaces. Bryce Canyon’s otherworldly hoodoos and vast high-desert light feel like an open invitation to expand my creative practice and deepen my relationship with the American West. I’m especially drawn to Utah as a place of both personal yearning and artistic possibility, where exploration and storytelling converge.

Hi! I’m Laura. I’m a mortgage lender as my full time career but my true desire is to be in nature as often as possible. I believe we get so caught up in rushing through life that many people miss the beauty of it all. I work hard but also don’t believe in working your life away. There is so much more out there. A heart of gratitude and being able to slow down to soak the beauty of nature in… that’s the winning ticket in life. That’s the kind is rich life I chase!
I have loved the outdoors and camping since I was a child. Sitting around a campfire with friends or family is one of my top favorite things to do in this life. I believe nature is healing. When I’m in the mountains, it’s where I feel the closest to God.
