Big Bend ‘26 Creative

Join us for the Wild Creative Meetup at Big Bend National Park from April 10th to April 14th. We’ll kick off on the 10th with a meet-and-greet & itinerary discussion. The following days will be filled with sunrise shoots, hikes, and sunset outings. Each night offers the opportunity for astrophotography under some of the darkest skies in the lower 48 states, as Big Bend is renowned for its minimal light pollution. April 14th is a sendoff/post editing or extended stay for anyone wanting to collaborate on additional projects in the park.

Weather: In mid-April, expect average daytime highs around 85–90°F (29–32°C), with overnight lows near 55–60°F (13–16°C). Days can feel warm, especially in the desert sun, while mornings and evenings are cooler and comfortable—layering is recommended, along with sun protection and plenty of water.

Highlights:

• Bird Migration: Experience one of the largest migratory paths for birds during spring, offering unique bird-watching and photography opportunities.

• Hot Springs & Rock Art: Relax in natural hot springs and explore ancient rock art sites.

• Wildlife & Landscapes: Capture images of diverse wildlife, majestic mountains, intricate rock structures, and stunning canyons.

• Boquillas, Mexico: With a valid passport, visit the quaint town of Boquillas, located just across the border within the national park.

  • Astrophotography: The weekend was planned around a new moon, so we’ll have the darkest skies possible for stargazing or photographing the milky way!

Planned Hikes:

Hikes vary in length and elevation gain. We’ll maintain a relaxed pace, stopping frequently for photos and breaks. The longest hike will be approximately 6 miles (8.8km), with moderate elevation changes.

Preparation:

• Hiking Gear: Sturdy footwear and comfortable attire.

• Photography Equipment: Cameras, lenses, tripods, and other essentials.

• Passport: If you plan to visit Boquillas.

• Camping Supplies: If you’re camping, ensure you have appropriate gear for variable temperatures.

This meetup is a chance to connect with fellow creatives, immerse yourself in nature, and find inspiration in the breathtaking landscapes of Big Bend. Whether you’re a photographer, writer, painter, musician, or simply nature lover there’s something here for everyone.

We look forward to creating, exploring, and sharing this adventure with you!
