Join us for the inaugural Wild Creative Meetup at Bryce Canyon National Park from May 15th to May 19th. We’ll begin on the 15th with a relaxed meet-and-greet and itinerary overview. The following days will be filled with sunrise shoots among the hoodoos, scenic hikes along the rim and into the amphitheaters, and sunset outings that showcase Bryce’s ever-changing light and color. Evenings offer incredible opportunities for stargazing and astrophotography, as Bryce Canyon is an International Dark Sky Park known for its exceptionally clear night skies.
May 19th will serve as a sendoff, post-editing session, or optional extended stay for anyone interested in collaborating on additional creative projects in the park.
Weather:
In mid-May, expect average daytime highs around 60–70°F (16–21°C), with overnight lows near 30–40°F (-1–4°C) due to Bryce’s high elevation. Weather can change quickly, and late-season snow is possible—warm layers, wind protection, and cold-weather camping gear are strongly recommended.
Highlights:
Hoodoos & Amphitheaters: Photograph Bryce’s iconic limestone hoodoos, natural amphitheaters, and dramatic geological formations found nowhere else on Earth.
Sunrise & Alpenglow: Bryce is famous for its sunrise light, with soft pinks, oranges, and purples illuminating the canyon.
High-Elevation Landscapes: Experience sweeping views, ancient bristlecone pines, and vast plateaus shaped by time and weather.
Dark Sky Experience: Exceptionally clear night skies ideal for Milky Way photography and long-exposure night work.
Astrophotography:
This meetup is scheduled near a new moon, providing optimal darkness for stargazing and Milky Way photography in one of the darkest parks in the U.S.
Planned Hikes:
Hikes will vary in length and elevation. We’ll keep a relaxed pace with frequent stops for photos and rest. The longest hike will be approximately 5–6 miles (8–10 km) with moderate elevation changes at high altitude.
Preparation:
Hiking Gear: Sturdy footwear, layers, gloves, and wind protection.
Photography Equipment: Cameras, lenses, tripods, headlamps, and extra batteries (cold drains batteries quickly).
Camping Supplies: Cold-weather camping gear if camping; nights can dip below freezing.
Hydration & Sun Protection: High elevation means stronger sun exposure, even in cooler temperatures.
This meetup is an opportunity to connect with fellow creatives, slow down, and create meaningful work in one of the most visually striking landscapes in the Southwest. Whether you’re a photographer, filmmaker, writer, painter, musician, or simply a lover of wild places, this gathering is designed to inspire.
We can’t wait to create, explore, and share this unforgettable Bryce Canyon experience with you.
Wild Creatives are always FREE to attend. We do ask for voluntary donations to cover group site expenses.
